Day 4 (Thursday)

A pain free night at last. I had a collapsed right lung which has now recovered sufficiently so I don’t have powerful oxygen pumped in. I also had one of my chest drains removed today. I also had a cannula taken off and the drain to my stomach through my nose.

Yesterday I did three short walks. Today’s goal is four walks. I’m allowed clear fluids which includes my first warm decaffeinated coffee!

I have one issue, my stomach is numb. Doctors are puzzled and think it could be the epidural in my back or possible nerve damage. It should heal in time.

Still a long way to go but I’m making progress. Surgeon just visited and expects I can move out of ICU to a private room in the Nuffield on Sunday.
