A long road ahead (Tuesday 13th)
Today was a stark reminder that my recovery will take time after a major operation. The dietitian called me today and was very pleased I had moved on to soft foods as well as puree (scrambled eggs etc). However, she was concerned about me being out of breath and having difficulty breathing when laying on my side. I had also lost 6kg in weight in just 10 days. It was expected to lose some, but they want to keep an eye on it to ensure I don’t lose too much more. For the first time in years my BMI is practically within the normal zone.
My surgeon was informed about breathing and I was immediately summoned to A&E for the next few hours whilst blood tests, CT scan and other tests conducted. I met with the surgical team and they determined that I still have fluid on both lungs, but not as much as the week before, so it is improving.
The fluid isn’t enough to warrant a drain inserted in to my lungs through my chest for now; but will monitor it on a weekly basis. To eliminate any infection I have been placed on another course of antibiotics and will have a follow up scan and tests next week.
I’m back home and ready for bed – shattered as I’m not sleeping well and keep dosing off during the day.
